Union Pacific Railroad will be closing the railroad crossing on County Road 3794 West of Joaquin on Tuesday, September 4th from 8 am to 2 pm.

Nacogdoches officers located suspects at the Valero Station in the 3000 block of Durst Street attempting to install a skimming device. Officers recovered computers and electronic equipment used for tampering with consumer information. While at the scene, one of the suspects fled officers on foot. After a lengthy foot pursuit, the suspect disappeared into a wooded area. The suspect is described as a hispanic male. Officers have a tentative identification on this suspect. The other suspect, arrested at the scene, was Aniel Dominguez Ballester, age 25, of Houston, Texas. He was charged with unlawful use of a criminal instrument and resisting arrest or search. Later yesterday 8-28-18, based on evidence discovered in the investigation, Ballester was charged additionally with unlawful interception or disclosure of wire, oral or electronic information, a second degree felony. As of this time he remains in the Nacogdoches County Jail. The investigation is still underway. 

Tri-County Community Action, Inc. will hold a Board Meeting on Monday September 10, 2018 in Center, Texas. The meeting will be held at the Central Office located (214 Nacogdoches St.) Center, Texas. Upon arrival Center Broadcasting Company observed that the vehicle was a pick-up truck.  Center Fire Department, Hughes Wrecker Service, and law enforcement arrived on the scene, no injuries were observed.

After several mintues, the pickup was able to start up successfully and drive away.  

The county wide burn ban was reinstated this morning by the Commissioners’ Court.  The situation will be reevaluated next Wednesday in Commissioners’ Court.

On August 14, 2018, the Desoto Parish Sheriff's Office and DeSoto Council on Aging hosted their quarterly Senior Fun Day at the Training Center located in Grand Cane, LA.  Over 140 were in attendance for this event which included games, door prizes, BINGO, food and much more.  Sheriff Jayson Richardson spoke to the crowd and presented an award to Council on Aging Administrator Cheryl Lane and Board President Will Richardson in appreciation for dedicated service and support to the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office and the S.A.F.E. Program.  Other speakers were Brian Williams with District 8 Fire Department speaking on storm preparedness, Jane Leone and Christy Shoalmire of Citizens Bank spoke on current check fraud and scams, and Rosalind Patterson of Patterson Purvis Funeral Home who spoke on the importance of life insurance and proactive planning.  DeSoto EMS was also on site providing free blood pressure and blood sugar testing.   We would like to thank State Representative Larry Bagley for coming out and speaking at the event, EMS Administrator Joe Magee, District 8 Fire Chief Bill Deloach, Captain Phillip Daniels and our DeSoto Auxiliary for assisting in this event.

The Shelby County Commissioners Court met on the morning of 8-15-18 and took the following actions:

1. They approved and paid weekly expenses.

2. No public comments were given on agenda items.

3. They accepted the donation of a welding machine for Commissioner Pct. 3.

4. They lifted the burn ban for Shelby County, but advise the public to still use extreme caution while burning.  They will revise the burn ban at the next Commissioners Court meeting.

5. The Tax-Assessor-Collector Debra Riley addressed the court and discussed ending or renewing a contract with Computer Information Concepts.  The court table the discussion until a future meeting.

6. The Tax-Assessor-Collector Debra Riley presented the court with tax rates.

7. The court scheduled a budget workshop for Monday, Aug 20th and 9:30 a.m.

8. Lastly, the court adjourned.

The burn ban for Shelby County has been lifted.  The Commissioners Court would like to stress that anyone burning should still be cautious.  The northwest part of the county is still fairly dry so please be safe and careful when burning.

Networking and joint operation between Tenaha PD, San Augustine Sheriff Department, and San Augustine PD. lands three in jail for felony money laundering, possession of marijuana and felon in possession of a firearm. Operation leads to the seizure of $15,261.00, one semi-automatic pistol and marijuana. 

This time on Agriculture in East Texas I journeyed to Martinsville, TX to meet with Mr. Archie Haddox a beekeeper. Mr. Haddox lent me a beekeeper outfit and showed me how to smoke and feed bees. Mr. Haddox was very knowledgeable about bees and I myself learned a few bee facts, in this bee-autiful episode.

Former Shelby County Jailer Korey McClure 43 of Tenaha was arrested on the following charges: Bribery, Official Oppression, Abuse of Official Capacity.

According to the Shelby County Sherriff's office, the following individuals were arrested on drug-related charges and a burglary charge.  Christopher Burch, Annie Murray, Dorvel Williams.

The Center Recycle bins have been moved to the City of Center facility on Riggs Street in Center. They are still useable by the public. They were moved due to some individuals throwing trash instead of recyclables in them. The blue dumpster shown in the background can be used for trash disposal. The City does plan on moving them back to the square in the future.

Center Broadcasting Company visited with local artist David Masterson.  Mr. Masterson has opened an art gallery on the Downtown Center city square.  In our interview, he discussed how art runs in his family.  *Correction at the end of the video it is Davmor Art Gallery, not Dazmor.

Still Waters Cowboy Church all Mule Rodeo will be this Saturday, August 4th, 2018 at the Shelby County Rodeo Arena in Center, Texas. This rodeo features all its riders on mules which have a mind of their own, come out and see the entertaining rodeo and the best part is it is free to attend.  The Rodeo starts at 8 p.m. so come on out!

The Ribbon Cutting for Vintage Junkie has been postponed for a few weeks.  There will be a Ribbon Cutting, so stay tuned for the new Date and Time.

The Center Noon Lions Club held their meeting today 8-2-18 at the John D. Windham Civic Center in Center Texas at 12:30 p.m. Durning the meeting they discussed the GMC Truck Raffle that they are having this year.  The Truck which is a 2018 GMS Canyon will be raffled off during this year's Poultry Festival, raffle tickets are $100 a piece.  For more information call: 936-598-6333 or email: thewulfs@sbcglobal.net.

Today 8-2-18 at approximately 11:24 a.m. there was a gas leak that happened at the First United Pentecostal Church in Center, TX. The Center Fire department responded and blockaded the area. Fortunately, there was no fire or reported injuries.
