Emma Loyce Bush, 89, of Tenaha, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, in Humble.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Ramah Baptist Church in Tenaha with Bro. Keith Keele officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will be at Ramah Cemetery.


Born August 21, 1933, in Scurry, Loyce is the daughter of Era Rhodes and Doyle Harrison. She worked as a bank teller. Her hobbies included crocheting and sitting on the front porch of her house in her rocker. Loyce was a member of Ramah Baptist Church. There, she enjoyed Bible studies and sending out cards to church members.
Survivors include grandchildren, Andrea Prichard and husband Johnny, Marsha Bowden, and Tammy Champ and husband Joe; and great grandchildren, Ashlyn Prichard and Emily Prichard.


Preceded in death by husband, Jack Bush; daughter, Susan Lanette Bush Bowden; parents, Era Rhodes and Damon “Doyle” Harrison; son-in-law, Jerry Bowden; sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Harrison Smith and Mary “Louise”

Born May 29, 1936, Mervil is the son of Lois and Lynn Crawford. He is a United States Army Veteran.

Calvin Ray Stephens

Mr. Calvin Ray Stephens of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the age of 67 years, 6 months, 13 days.

Mr. Stephens was born February 7, 1955, in Houston, Texas, to parents Lelia Mae (Hebert) and Jasper Miles "Duke" Stephens. He had lived in the San Augustine area most of his life and was a resident of Twin Lakes/Stone Creek Village for the past several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lelia Mae and Jasper Miles "Duke" Stephens; along with his brothers, Jimmy Stephens and Dennis Stephens; and sisters, Theresa Rodriguez and Lelia Mary Stephens.

His survivors include a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are set for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the Dickerson Cemetery, located on County Road 4255 in San Augustine County.

Pamila Strong, age 66, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

Pamila Strong was born October 23, 1955 in Carthage, Texas, to John Henry Meyers and Jimmie Conway. She was a member of Center First United Methodist Church. Pamila retired from Horseshoe Casino where she worked as a gaming auditor for 25 years.

She is survived by her Daughter, Chelle Mooney and husband Bob Jr. of Center; grandsons, Bo Mooney and fiancé Hailey, and Luke Mooney both of Center; mother, Jimmie Lovell of Logansport, LA.; sister, Angie Burton and husband Donnie of Logansport, LA.; brother, Ted Lovell and wife Karen Gardener of Hot Springs, AR. She was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and host of friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at The Carpenter House of Shreveport.

She is preceded in death by her father’s John Henry Meyers and Tony Lovell.

James Ray Deason, 59, of Timpson, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022, in Nacogdoches.

Born August 24, 1962, James is the son of Mary Little and James Bryant. He liked arts and crafts and would help anyone in need. James was of the non-denominational faith, where he served as a minister.

He is survived by his wife, Lela M. Davis Deason of Timpson; brothers and sisters, John Paul Deason, Mark Samuel Deason, Jerry Lee Deason and Michelle, Elizabeth Cox, Felicia McFarland and Tim, and Billy M. Deason; stepchildren, Jody R. Grubbs III, Ricky Lynn Grubbs and Tammy, and Teresa Anne Grubbs.

Born July 4, 1939, in Meridian, Texas, Joyce was the daughter of Wanda Comeal (Rayburn) Buro and Henry Otto Ludwig Buro. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage and First Baptist Church in Center. Joyce taught Sunday school class at First Baptist and sang in the choir for many years. She loved classic movies, singing, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Carl Rogers and Becky of Center, Shelly Rogers of Center, and Edward Rogers of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Matthew Rogers, Chloe Rogers, Joseph Rogers, Lane Rogers, and Lauren Rogers; and sister, Janelle Drews of Center.

Preceded in death by husband, Y.W. “Bill” Rogers; and parents, Wanda Comeal (Rayburn) Buro and Henry Otto Buro.

Jeffery Lance Barbee, 42, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, in Shelbyville. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.

Born February 26, 1980, Jeffery is the son of Bonnie Moore Sims and Archie Barbee Jr. Growing up, he assisted his father in the logwoods. Following high school, his brother, Bill Faust, convinced him to begin a career in pipelining. He was known on the job as “the best hoe hand around”. Jeffery took a seven year break from pipelining and went to work overseas. He was the first one in East Texas to dive to extreme depths as a commercial diver. Currently, Jeffery was working with his brother, Gilbert Bearden, who got him a job as a truck driver. Every job he worked, he was privileged to be able to be with his brothers. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, football, and spending time with family and friends. Jeffery was crazy about his wife and children.

Born October 17, 1948, in Orlando, Fl., Delores is the daughter of Ester Meyer Williford and Glenn Williford. Delores was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for 33 years. She enjoyed quilting, shopping, and going to church.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kevin Jernigan, Michael Jernigan and wife Nicole; stepson, Stacy Jernigan and wife Chanel; stepdaughter, Cindy Maphet; grandchildren, Jeslyn Jernigan, Corbin Jernigan, and Taryn Smith; brother, Glenn Williford and wife Judy; sisters-in-law, Effie Jean O’Rear, Debbie Williford, Peggy Baylor, and Mae Stotts; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Ruby Brown Ricketson, 91, of Center, passed away Monday, July 25, 2022, in Center.
Born August 7, 1930, Ruby is the daughter of Bridgie Hilliard and Nicholas Brown. She worked in healthcare,
where she retired a nurse. Ruby was a member of Order of Eastern Star and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include son, Alan Ricketson and Becky of Center; daughter, Sandra and Wayne King of Laurel,
Delaware; grandchildren, Lance Ricketson, Travis Ricketson, Krista and Scott Barber, and Melody Timmons; great
grandchildren, Kaycee Ricketson, Shyla Timmons, Haley Timmons, Keaton Ricketson, Triston Ricketson, Craig, Erin  and Owen Barber; sisters, Barbara Brown Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas and Christine and John Kelly of
Orange Beach, Alabama; longtime companion, Wesley Van Matre; also a number of nieces and nephews.

Margaret June Gordon Armstreet, 87, of Houston passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Houston. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation one hour prior. Bro. Gordon Vaughn will officiate. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Margaret June Gordon Armstreet was born November 8, 1934, in Joaquin, Texas, to John E. Gordon and Gladys Lurlene Swan Gordon. She was a member of Melrose Baptist Church. June loved being a Mother to her only son, John Wayne Armstreet, and she loved playing the piano throughout her life. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Stephen F. Austin University, worked as a principal in the Klein School District for years, then went on to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, retiring as a teacher in the prison system. She is survived by numerous cousins and loving friends. Preceded in death by her parents, John E. Gordon and Gladys Lurlene Swan Gordon; and son, John Wayne Armstreet, 56.
