Dorothy Mydee Thomason departed this world to her eternal reward in heaven at Parkwood in the Pines on December 23, 2022.

She was born in Colin County, Texas, on October 9, 1919. She is survived by her son, Windell Thomason; grandchildren, Angela Cowart, Diane Rosse, Debbie Thomason, Eddy Thomason, Wade Thomason, and Wes Thomason; and a host of great and great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were parents, Virgil and Cora Anglin; brothers, Ollis and Otis Anglin; her loving husband of 68 years, Edwin Thomason; and son, Milton Thomason.

Her whole life was centered around God and family. She never worked outside the home by choice. Ed was always the best dressed Greyhound Bus Driver with those starched uniform shirts. Milton and Windell and all her grandchildren were always well cared for in so many ways.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and a member of Central Church of Christ in Lufkin, Texas.

A life well lived for 103 years.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation an hour prior. James Slack and Johnny Havard both of Lufkin will officiate. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Doris Bailey Wennerbom of Center, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home on December 21st at the age of 99.

Doris was born on July 28, 1923, in Shelby County to Spurgeon and Isabelle Daw Bailey. She attended Joaquin school where she graduated as valedictorian in 1939. She furthered her education at Stephen F. Austin with a major in Physical Education. Her first teaching job was in Port Arthur teaching PE. It was while teaching there that the school nurse introduced her to her nephew, MT “Bo” Wennerbom. He was an air force pilot in town on a leave. It was love at first sight, and after corresponding thru letters until Bo was able to return to the states, they were married in 1945. They then moved to College Station where Bo attended Texas A&M on a GI Bill and earned a degree in Engineering while Doris took in laundry from Corp students at Texas A&M to help pay the bills. During this time they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Susan, born in 1946. After graduation, the family moved to Beaumont and Doris taught girl’s PE at South Park High School. Over the years, they moved several times as Bo’s career advanced with every job. Some of the cities they lived in were Dunkirk, New York; Bay City, Michigan; Cordele, Georgia; and Perrysburg, Ohio. Many lifelong friends were made throughout the years.

Eventually Doris stopped teaching and devoted herself to being a housewife for 59 years. When Bo retired from Schindler elevators, they bought a home in Center and never moved again. If you asked Doris at any time how she was doing, she always responded that she was wonderful. She was a genuine optimist and always had a kind word.

She is preceded in death by her dear husband Bo; her daughter, Susan; her parents; her precious sister, Joyce Weatherall; and her great-niece, Shelby Weatherall.

Left to cherish her memory are Nephews: William (Bill) Weatherall and wife Marguerite of The Woodlands, Texas Charles Weatherall and wife Carol of Denton, Texas

Born November 8, 1946, Becky is the daughter of Maggie Pigg Murphy and Johnny Murphy. She loved her flowers, her family, and her dogs. She was one of the hardest working women, having worked at Center Country Club for over 20 years. She loved to care for babies and care for the elderly. She had the most unselfish and giving heart and was the best mother in the world.

Maria Del Rosario Gonzalez Morales, 69, of Center, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in Monterrey, Mexico. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Mrs. Gonzalez was born September 11, 1953, in Cloete, Coahuila, Mexico, to Bernardo Morales Tristan and Nicolasa Balderas Hernandez. She was the fourth child of seven siblings. She had five brothers and two sisters. At the age of 18 she married the love of her life, Javier Gonzalez, they were married for 50 years. They had six children, five daughters and one son; her three oldest daughters were born in Coahuila and the rest in Texas. She grew up in Minas La Luz, Coahuila, Mexico. At a young age she had to work to help provide for her family and was not able to finish school. Later in life she moved to San Jose Del Aura, Coahuila where her husband and her built their home. Her husband began traveling to the United States, continually traveling back and forth to Mexico, then eventually she and each of her daughters traveled, settling in Center, Texas. Together with her husband, they worked hard to provide for their family while living in a very modest way. Due to health reasons, she ended up being a stay-at-home wife and mother, where she took care of her children. They lived in a mobile home; however, due to an unfortunate accident that caused a fire in their home, forced them to temporarily live with a nephew. After this accident they managed to acquire the house that she lived in until her husband’s death. She often traveled to Mexico alongside her husband and children to see their families. She continued to do this even after her husband’s death. One of her last wishes was to travel to Mexico to see her family and which she managed to do before her passing. Maria was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to those who knew her. She loved to crochet, read, dance and loved her little dog “Baby.” Even though she was reserved she loved her family dearly and was proud of her five daughters, one son, five sons in-law, twenty-five grandchildren, two grandsons in-law, one granddaughter in-law and six great-grandchildren. Maria and her late husband Javier are loved and will be greatly missed by many for their generosity in helping others. Born December 8, 1932, in Rural Shelby County, Ben is the son of Nettie Eddins Brittain and Hearn Brittain. Ben worked as a heavy equipment operator on various pipeline construction jobs. His hobbies included traveling, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers. He is survived by his wife, whom he married on January 10, 1959, Shirley Shull Brittain of Shelby County; daughter, Karen and husband Jimmy Everett Mitchell; son, Michael Lance Brittain; grandchildren, Susan Lea Mitchell, Brian Everett Mitchell and wife Amanda, Natalie Erin Brittain, Donovan Lance Brittain; great granddaughter, Hailey Madison Mitchell; sister, Marjorie Brittain Lundy; brother-in-law, Johnny Hargrove of Shelbyville; niece, Kim Hargrove Bridges of Center; also, numerous other nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Preceded in death by parents, Nettie Eddins Brittain and Hearn Brittain; brothers, Lamar Brittain, Hugh “Cotton” Brittain, Hershell Brittain, Joe Brittain; sister, Oneita Brittain Vaughn; and sister-in-law, Mary Frances Shull Hargrove. L.D. Hibbard, Jr., 70, passed away at his home, in Center, Texas on Sunday, December 18, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11am. The funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 12 noon. Both will take place at Watson & Sons Funeral Home, 1554 State HWY 7 East, Center, TX 75935. Interment is at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Bro. Mike Belgard officiating.

L.D.’s battle with serious medical challenges over the last two years of his life showed his courage, tenacity, and his ability to face any challenge head-on, with a smile. He was fun-loving with a larger-than-life personality and a contagious laugh. He spent his life entertaining others with his joyful character and cracking jokes until the very end. His very last words to his family were, “I love you all so much.”

L.D. was born on June 6, 1952, in Houston, Texas to L.D. Hibbard, Sr. and Josephine (Mollie) Barton. He was a fun, humble, kind, and generous person who loved spending time with his family and friends. L.D. was a young soul whose voice filled the room with excitement. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, flying his plane, creating his own golf rules, “Hibbard engineering,” inappropriate jokes, watching the Astros and Cowboys, and playing (and almost always winning) a mean game of 42 and Texas Hold’em. He also loved watching his birds and westerns. He was a successful entrepreneur, owning multiple businesses ranging from computers, technical companies, and internet companies, to oil and gas endeavors and multiple gyms. L.D. showed his dedication to his community serving multiple years on the Center Volunteer Fire Department.

Jane Elizabeth McAllister Smith Smith Fields Phelps, 70, cashed out of this life on December 2, 2022 in Houston, Texas surrounded by her husband of 40 years and daughter of 36 years. 

Jane was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on November 22, 1952 to William McAllister (Mack) Smith and Clara Elizabeth (Betty) Palmer Smith. She was a first generation Texan and sometimes imagined herself as a southern bell. She was raised in Chireno, Texas in a pine cabin built by her daddy. Growing up she loved horses and building pine straw houses with her best friends. Here she met Charlotte Singleton and they remained best friends for the rest of Jane’s life. As a girl she traveled every summer to Waverly, Tennessee to visit her Aunt Barbra where her love of horses met her love of mischief. She attended boarding school in Connecticut and later, the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She didn’t learn a lick of French but she pretended she did. Upon visiting her in Paris, her aunt and uncle were relieved to see while she had become a hippy, she at least bathed. 

She later moved back to Texas and then promptly to San Francisco to explore a brief, ill-advised marriage to her first husband that she had met while in Europe. After she realized the mistake of marrying someone with the same last name, she high-tailed it back to Texas where she started working in Center for Dr. Robert I. Hughes. She worked with Robert for nearly 40 years where they became chosen family. A second marriage (and friendship) occurred when she met Gene and his son Alphaa. Alphaa walked so that Dianne could later run. Another one of Jane’s spoils from her split with Gene was her friendship with Dianne Murphee. Dianne, whom she named her only daughter after, became her best friend of a certain number of years that neither would divulge.

In the fall of 1980, Jane met Mark E. Phelps and while the story told of their meeting has been changed a few times over the years, it’s safe to say they were immediately smitten.  They married in 1982 and celebrated 40 years married this past July.  Dianne came along eventually and Jane did her best to show Dianne how to be a lady. She failed, but Dianne does know what fork to use.

  Jane loved to tell jokes and stories and while they usually fell flat, she thought she was hilarious and that is truly what matters most. She loved to play bridge, chain smoke cigarettes and drink coffee. She loved to play the slots and to visit the casino. She had a sometimes green thumb and educated Dianne on all the flowers.  Her love of hummingbirds resulted in her sometimes having hundreds of hummingbirds visit her feeders at a time. She enjoyed fine China and silver but was not above rolling up an enchilada into a napkin to take with her for later. Jane thought of herself as crafty and Dianne gaslighted her into thinking she could sell her handmade ornaments on Etsy. Jane adored Christmas and tradition, something she passed onto her daughter. She hoarded Kleenexes and straws, hated drinking water and never finished anything that she opened in the pantry. She loved animals and when asked before she passed who she was excited to see she immediately answered “the dogs”.  She was competitive and not above cheating even when Dianne was a small child. She was generous and loved giving gifts. She was tender hearted and loved to hold hands.

A brief battle with lung cancer that spread throughout her body devastated her family but Jane remained strong for us all. She gave it hell and we are so proud of her.

  Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Betty Smith, and brother Richard Dutton. 

The gratitude the Phelps family have for the nurses and doctors and staff at M. D. Anderson is immeasurable. 

 Jane left a large hole in the hearts of her family and will be missed with every breath. 

 Rest well, my little Jewish mouse. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation at 9:00 a.m.  Interment will be at Lower Chireno Cemetery in Nacogdoches County.

My son, Donald Lynn Parker… Donny was born November 26, 1952, in Mineral Wells, Texas - a peace maker, loving, generous. He always got all of us family together whenever he would come home from Korea. He worked for Lockheed Missiles in Space Company, teaching computer science to the military troops. He always wanted a country home with cattle, farm animals, and live the life of a country boy. He retired several years ago and bought his place boss. Cattle, goats chickens, and a great big Pyrenees dog name Mouchet. He had jersey cattle, made a great showing of the of the place that he purchased; shared with his family and friends and neighbors. Love the Lord and devoted his life to the Word of God. He always had a way of getting all the family together and one last time he has drawn us all together say goodbye until we meet again, Donny.

He is survived by his mother, Dot Parker Grant; step-father, Noel Grant; son, Joshua Parker of Oregon; daughter, Sara Lynn Watt of Maine; grandchildren, Nathan Parker, Matthew Parker, Jadlynn Watt, and Anna Smith; brothers, Robby Parker and wife Pam, Wesley Parker, and John Parker.

Johnny H. Harvey, 84, of Logansport, Louisiana, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022, in Mansfield, Louisiana.

Born August 17, 1938, in Huxley, Johnny is the oldest son of Edna Jane Cassell Harvey and John Eddie Harvey.  Johnny attended school at Strong High School graduating with the class of 1956.  He was a genealogical history buff and was always happy to answer any questions about the family or history of the Huxley area.  Johnny loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Working with cattle, following Dodger baseball and watching rodeo were among his other lifelong hobbies.  Johnny was extremely proud of his career serving in the energy industry, having worked as Superintendent running large pipeline projects with major pipeline construction companies.  It gave him great pleasure that both his sons followed in his footsteps in the industry. He is survived by his sons, Anthony Harvey and wife, Judy, of Carthage and Mike Harvey and wife, Cheryl, of Huxley; grandchildren, Johnathan Harvey and wife, Kristine, Jerred Harvey and wife, Kensi, and Trey Harvey; great grandchildren, Axxel and Stella Harvey; brother-in-law, Jerry Burkett; sisters-in- law, Kay Harvey and Connie Harvey; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Tre is survived by his mother, Angela Haessly Fisher and stepfather, Kademm Fisher; brothers, Jayden Burse and Jordan Burse; grandparents, Johnny Haessly and Dana Renfroe; great grandparents, Jim and Sue Finch; uncles, Justin Haessly and Dustin Finch; aunts, Savana Dockens and Stormy Giddings; special cousins, Kayden and Zoe; also, a host of other cousins, family members, and friends.

Preceded in death by his mawmaw, Kay Haessly;
